From sponsoring events that bring joy to local families, to teaching the next generation how to stay safe around electricity, we’re committed to actively supporting the people, organisations, and events in the communities we operate.
Special Children's Christmas Party
Wellington Electricity is a major sponsor for Wellington's annual Special Children’s Christmas Party, an annual charity event held for children with special needs and their families. These events, held nationwide, are the largest of their kind for special needs children and their families in Aotearoa.
Children invited to the party may be living with challenges, such as illness, disability, or difficult home situations. They’re then treated to a day of celebrity stage shows, fun rides, and plenty of yummy food.
The goal of this event is simple – to put a smile on these children’s faces for at least one day this year.
Graffiti Prevention Programme
Wellington Electricity is playing its part in reducing the cost of graffiti removal by spending more than $600,000 a year on replacing this visual pollution with something far more appealing.
Since 2010, we’ve been engaging with local artists and schools to paint interesting and colourful murals on our substation buildings located in the worst hit areas for graffiti.
Removing the temptation that a blank canvas presents to those who engage in graffiti and replacing it with art has proven very successful, and the feedback we’ve received has been positive. If you’d like to find out more about this programme, please email [email protected].
Stay Safe programme
Established in 2004, our Stay Safe programme is aimed at teaching school children about the dangers of electricity and how to stay safe around it. The 60-minute session includes a video, electrical safety discussion aided by visual props, and the presentation of a workbook to each student.
These sessions, along with the take home workbooks, are a practical, engaging resource that will help teach your students about staying safe around electricity.
Innovative Young Minds
Wellington Electricity is proud to support the next generation of female innovators by sponsoring Innovative Young Minds.
Innovative Young Minds) offers young women in Years 11 and 12 the opportunity to learn about the wide range of career opportunities available in STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and high-tech Manufacturing).
They provide a choice of programmes, including an annual camp for 40 students, to give young women hands-on experience in the STEMM field, connect them with role models, and help them build their networking and innovation skills.
